DO YOU THINK JAMAICA IS AN ISLAND PRISON?? ONLY THOSE WITH VISA CAN GET OUT

Check out this post from ANTHONY at www.OverTheLimitEntertainment.com :

Do you think Jamaica is an Island prison? Only those with visa can get out. I ask this question in a previous post and it's still pondering on my mind. Why can't the average Jamaican just get up in the morning and make a reservation to anywhere in the world? Any resident from UK, US and CA just to name a few can do so but many Jamaican's can not.

Your chance of getting a visa these days is similar to winning the lottery. If you want to increase your chance you would have to own land, house, cars and/or have a good job while in the US, UK and CA, you only need a passport and cash to travel the world.

These countries can come to the Island and enjoy the beauty and the resources but if you want to visit their country then you will find yourself balancing an egg on your nose while explaining to an embassy officer why you need to travel. If you should find yourself with a visa don't feel you won the game because they can take it back without reason.

An island with invisible wall to keep in the poor I would call it...

You know...I think this is true for other impoverished (read the rich stay rich and poor a ah dead fi hungry) countries as well. However since JA is close o my heart I'll stick to that, It is like the government don’t trust the people. I don’t get it, and I was wondering the same thing the other day. People are to beg, steal and borrow a way off the island! Meanwhile boat loads of people come and leave as they please. I would love to find out why the Visa system is so insanely mismanaged/and takes advantage of people. What I find out, I will share. Thanks.

yeah, this goes for most third world countries, and what you say about the rich staying rich and the poor poor, is very true. especially the western countries are so afraid of illegal immigration, that they make it almost impossible for people from other places to visit. this isn't the doing of the jamaican government.

it feels so wrong that because i'm from a wealthy country i can go wherever i want and do almost whatever i want, while other people don't have the same opportunity, just because they're born someplace else. why should people's opportunities depend on where they're from? makes me sick.

my step-mum is from the dominican republic, and applied for residence permit in norway half a year ago, and she still hasn't gotten any answer. my dad's had to go through a two-hour interview with the norwegian police and procure all kinds of absurd documents, even though it's pretty obvious that it's not a pro forma marriage. it's one hell of a bureaucracy.

for one and a half year now i've been in kind of a long distance relationship with a boy from antigua, but he can't come visit me here, they'd never give a young, black boy a visa, unless he were rich. and well, his chances of being able to live anywhere in this part of the world are very, very slim. so most likely we'll never get to be together because of the system.

i've tried reading the immigration rues, but understanding them is nearly impossible. i've tried to find someone to explain them to me, but no one can help me. every office just directs me to another.

i've also worked as a volunteer with asylum seekers in norway, and seen how fucked up that system is too. it's like everyone who tries to get into this part of the world is rendered suspects.

so i've seen pretty clearly several times how hard and wrong the system is. this world's created to keep people apart. a babylon system dis!

Don't know why this the case in Jamaica, but in the Bahamas one doesn't need a visa to travel to the USA, Canada or UK. Hmmm

I have an opinion on this for sure. Okay so those of us from farrin who are allowed to travel where and when we want...I guess it's because we're from a "have" country and have nothing to flee from. Those in poorer countries definitely have something to run from. We have opportunity, they don't really. Their government should CREATE reasons for people to want to be in their own country!

Coming from Canada, a country who lets pretty much ANYONE in whether they're a benefit to society or not, it makes me bitter that the honest visitors can't just come here without enduring the 3rd degree from immigration. Yet if someone claims the right form of "refugee" status they walk right through the door here.

I know PLENTY Jamaicans who have no interest in leaving Jamaica but would love the opportunity to travel and expand their horizons, and I think it's crappy that they aren't able to.

There's really no way to win this one I guess. So YES I think Jamaica (and other countries) purposely create a prison for the people. In a way it's like crabs in a bucket - a catch22, the people can't become more worldly because they're being held back.
