Biologically, women are more susceptible to genital herpes than men and when you add that on top of the socioeconomic factors that negatively affect African Americans general state of health -- it's like black women never had a chance!
Most of the time, people infected with the STD don't even know it. Up to 80 percent of genital herpes infections are undiagnosed and many people who HAVE the STD don't have visible sores, although redness and itching are other symptoms. But remember, just because there is no visible proof doesn't mean that they can't transmit the life long infection.
By the way, genital herpes makes the transmission of HIV a lot easier. If its not one thing, its another.
