TANYA STEPHENS GIVES A PUBLIC LECTURE AT UWI TODAY (03.31.11) AT 6:30PM

It's a shame that I won't be able to hear this lecture. I'm just hoping that I can find footage of it once its over.

It looks like UWI is starting an interesting trend by incorporating some of the top rated artists of the island to spread some knowledge to the masses in the form of a lecture rather than lyrics. Just the other day Vybz Kartel stepped up to the podium, today it's Tanya Stephens... let's see whose up next!

Tanya's topic is "MUSIC: The Power To Shape Societies" and you know you can't go wrong when listening to Tanya. She shows her depth through her music so I can just imagine how great this will turn out.

This lecture is hosted by the Dept of Literature's in English for their course, "Reggae Poetry".

But don't forget, the public is invited!!

So if you need more information, be sure to call 876.927.2217 to get your questions answered.

In the mean time, check out Tanya Stephens latest album "Infallible"!

PLAYLIST: GAPPY RANKS + DELLY RANX - COULD AH RUNAWAY [OFFICIAL VID]

Who knew Delly Ranx was such a cutie!?

I'm telling you, this generation has the most cute reggae artists per capita! LOL Back in the days with the greats like Ninja Man and Shabba Ranks.. I thought there was no hope!

I love this song and I'm happy that they made it into a video. Delly Ranks is BACK! And don't sleep on the Brits! Gappy Ranks is impressive.. I listened to his entire album and I was more than pleased.

PLAYLISTS: AGENT SASCO - SOMETHINGS GOTTA GIVE (CITY LIFE RIDDIM)

"It mean seh if you living negative it nah amount to nutt'n positive.."

This is BY FAR the realest song I've heard in a looooooooooong time..

He talks about EVERYTHING in this tune, the way we raise our children, our government, our environment, the economy, our mental strength, morality, spirituality and everything in between.

You can't love reggae and don't rate him. Whether you still call him ASSASSIN or you're up to di time and refer to him as AGENT SASCO he still stands as one of the REALEST artists right now.

THE MAKINGS OF A GANJA MAN

Ok, so I just saw some shit that REALLY disturbed me. I'm reluctant to even post it because I much prefer show the land that I love in a more positive light, but whats a girl to do?

I know we've become desensitized to some of the craziness but seriously, WE'RE CORRUPTING THE KIDS!

And Michael Jackson said it right, you gotta start with the man in the mirror. Everybody pointing fingers and don't realize what a difference it would make if they stopped some of the fuckery they take part in and finally make some efforts toward the greater good.

Do you know what kind of difference that would make?

Try it and tell me what happens.. :)

PLAYLIST: DELROY WILSON - DON'T WANT LOVE WALK THROUGH THAT DOOR

Even after singing songs about not wanting a pretty girl and tunes like this where he stress that he's a poor man with nothing to offer but love. I bet you any money that he had a trailer load of girls back in his prime!

I don't want a man trying to woo me after saying he only rate ugly girls and worse... him naaaaaaah no money but this tune still stand as one of my timeless classics so mi nah diss up di general!

At least he's honest!! LOL

PLAYLIST: ALAINE - SINCERELY IN LOVE (LOVE POTION RIDDIM)

Alaine has such a pretty voice. Something like a songbird, and definitely a change from the atrocities I sometimes hear in rotation.

What do you know about the love potion? That fantasy-like feeling, butterflies in your stomach, soft and warm thoughts of love and happiness that's expected to last a lifetime?

I'm here listening to the Love Potion Riddim Mix and although it sounds nice... I don't trust it and I don't believe the hype.

But for what it's worth, it does sound nice.

PLAYLIST: BEENIE MAN + FRIENDS RIDDIM MEDLEY [OFFICIAL VID]

Beenie Man don't play!!

He found a spot for himself in each and every segment of this video, but mi nah lie.. I do like this medley video. I even have this medley on one of my dancehall mixtapes.

After 30 years in the dancehall music industry, Beenie Man never slowed down, aged or fell off the charts. Thats commendable..

How many artists you know can say the same?

VYBZ KARTEL WILL LECTURE AT UWI ON THURSDAY, MARCH 10TH, 7PM

This should be interesting...

Vybz Kartel will lecture at the University of West Indies this THURSDAY on the topic, "Pretty Like a Colouring Book: My Life and My Art" thanks to Ms. Carolyn Cooper who writes editorials in the Jamaica Gleaner.

One of her postings entitled, "More on Kartel and Bleaching" struck a chord with the artist when he decided to write her a response:

"Ms. Cooper, firstly, I'd like to wish you a pleasant goodnight (or morning depending on when you receive this email). Secondly, I'd like to say that I am the author of the song. Russian didn't write a line. And if you'd paid as much attention to the dexterity exhibited in the song as you have to the perceived subliminal messages of self-hate blah blah blah etc etc, you'd have figured that out.

"Thirdly, neither 'di gyal dem' opinion or urs matter to Vybz Kartel. What matters is that my songs get so popular (as is the case with the one you and your colleagues 'a look a fawud offa'), I can provide for myself and my family which I have been doing and will continue to do so, especially with the help of people such as yourself who, by giving so much energy to Vybz Kartel via articles like this, make Vybz Kartel 'the talked about one'. Which is all I need to capitalise on the prize. I hope you people write about me every day of the week. Thanks and have a goodnight."

"Famously yours, Adidja 'Michael Cakesoap Jackson' Palmer"

Ms. Cooper immediately responded and eventually secured a date for him to lecture where she teaches REGGAE POETRY at UWI.

So there ya go!

The Department of Literature in English and the Centre for Gender and Development Studies are hosting the lecture, which will take place at the Undercroft of the Senate Building and the public is invited to attend.

Ms. Cooper states that she would love to see Vybz Kartel register as a student at UWI and apply his intellect in another sphere of influence.. which would impact the community because young men on the corner may consider the option of formal education if they say their role model doing the same.

PLAYLIST: QUEEN IFRICA - TIMES LIKE THESE

Queen Ifrica is the TRUTH!! I love her authenticity, she speaks how she feels and don't waste time with the sugar coatings. Popularly known for bringing light to topics that many like to sweep under the rug and surprisingly enough, this same attribute is what makes her so unique to the industry.

I love her style, I love her swag and more importantly, I love her music. This tune right here is just another highlight to her up soaring career and the opening of doors that many want to keep closed.

I appreciate the impact she makes on reggae music.
