MILK RETURNS TO PRIMETIME TV AS KARTEL'S "SUBSTITUTE TEACHER"

Milk returns to your television screen this season as Kartel's "Substitute Teacher" on the highly anticipated reality show, Teacha's Pet,  which airs this Friday (09.23.11) on CVM, 10pm local time.

According to Milk, "I'm the substitute... I'll be there when "Di Teacha" (Kartel) can't come to class.  We've been the best of friends for the past 10 years, so I'm the perfect one to go between him and the girls.  You have to come through me to get to Kartel."

Apparently, Milk was approached by Kartel and the show's producer, Carleene Samuels about becoming a guest host on the popular production and she quickly agreed. This would be her official return to the airwaves since the release of her public sex tape in 2008.

Milk states, "I know it's gonna be the most watched show on TV and the experience was one in a million. I've made long lasting friendships with the girls from around the world. Also working with Addi (Kartel) on a day to day basis has been great, I've seen how professional he can really be and see that he's a marketing genius. It was an epic experience, and I wanna hear what everyone has to say about it. I know it's gonna be international."

PLAYLIST: NANA MCLEAN - NANA'S MEDLEY

Like many of us, I grew up with an aunt who aspired to be a singer so all day long I would listen to the classics and didn't even realize it. Anytime my aunt got around a microphone she would sing her heart out till the wee hours of the morning, after a while, I knew the words.

It wasn't until I started listening to my oldies but goodies mix-tapes when I realized where my aunt was getting her inspiration from.

This one was definitely one of my personal favorites..

EVENT COVERAGE: REGGAE RHYTHM AND BLUES FESTIVAL - ROY WILKINS PARK - SEPT 4TH, 2011

TARRUS RILEY

Reggae Rhythm and Blues festival came to Roy Wilkins Park on Labor Day weekend to give us the best of both worlds -- Reggae, music straight from Jamaica, and R&B, the heartbeat of the United States. Jamaicans near and far always had a passion for SOUL... whether it was singing every lyric to a Celine Dion song or dressing up like it was prom night for the annual SOUL 2 SOUL dance, the smooth blend of jazz, gospel, and the blues will always have a special place in the heart of a true Jamaican so combining that with dancehall and turning that idea into a stage show was ingenious, and it's surely not a surprise that the idea came from IRIE JAM, the hottest reggae radio station in the upper east coast.
MONICA
The first annual Reggae Rhythm and Blues fest featured R&B acts like Monica and Babyface.  There was a moment where I actually thought that BOBBY BROWN was a surprise guest on the show but eventually realized that Babyface introduced some of the songs that he wrote for Bobby Brown during his set which took me straight down memory lane.

BABYFACE
Although there were a few hiccups throughout the event, it was an overall exciting show.  Machel Montano gave an energetic performance which had the soca massives in the crowd jumping, waving and gyrating all around!  I was able to meet the lovely Ms. Raine and reconnect with industry sweethearts like Malaika of WorldFlavas and everyone's favorite hostess, Diva Nikki Z.

Mona and I spent the rest of the show promoting, conducting interviews, meeting, greeting and of course, enjoying the event.  Everyone was looking forward to the moment when IRIE JAM presented Beenie Man with his achievement award.  Although some were disappointed that Beenie Man was unable to perform at this special event, he did surprise us by bringing out up and coming superstar, KHAGO to do a quick performance for the crowd.
KHAGO
KILLABOO
Miss Mona was able to catch Khago backstage for a brief interview where he was excited to announce that this was his first time in NYC... There we also met with Marie Claire, an interesting lady with a unique talent.  Click below to check out the exclusive interviews!!

I was also very impressed with the tribute they made to the late Joel Chin of VP Records.  According to the tribute, Joel was the A&R Director at VP Records who unfortunately lost his life in yet another senseless act of violence.  It was sad news for everyone in the dancehall fraternity but it was comforting that Irie Jam took the time to present a tribute in his honor.

The rest of the evening went smoothly, I enjoyed rocking to the sounds of Tarrus Riley and took a few pics after his great performance.  I Octane was definitely a crowd pleaser even though he was rushed off stage due to strict time constraints.

LENX

The night ended with Mavado's performance as he sang about the woman who scorned him, "DELILAH"! With Mavado being the final performer on the Reggae Rhythm and Blues Festival the only question left was, "Where to next!?" because as you know, after the show is the AFTER PARTY!! All roads led to BB KINGS that night.. but thats another story in itself! I'll tell you all about that next time!

PLAYLIST: AIDONIA - MISS YUH FUCK (TAKEOVER RIDDIM) + [LIVE SUMFEST PERFORMANCE]

Who's the first person that comes to your mind when you hear this song??

I surely have a special someone in mind!! ::sigh:: the memories...

There was a time when I heard Aidonia say in an interview that he would tone down the lewdness in his music, this of course was after he released, "Hundred Stab" and started touring throughout Europe.  It looked like he started to see how far his music can take him and wanted to be a bit more professional when managing his career.  He was looking for commercial success.

I swear that must have lasted only for 2 months because he turned it up about four notches!  The tunes I've heard since then is more SLACK than it was before!!

But who's complaining??  Not I!  I love this song..  For a matter of fact, in my eyes, Aidonia can do no wrong, he brings out that "other" side of me..

JAH CURE WAS DROPPED FROM THE MOBO AWARDS BECAUSE OF PRIOR GUN AND RAPE CHARGES

Back in the day I knew more about the "FREE JAH CURE" movement before I even knew who he was... or why he should be free.

Then he came out with his HIT SINGLE, "Reflections" that put him on the map.  A song that every ex-con, near and far, could relate to.

If you were ever arrested, you promised yourself, the lord, your family and your friends that you would be better.  You sang the gospels claiming that those prison walls will never see your face again.  You thought those thoughts while incarcerated... that you will become a law abiding citizen because people don't seem to realize how precious FREEDOM is, until it's taken away.

And I must say, so far, Jah Cure has done well.

He swore to us that he could be a better man.  And he's proving it!  Jah Cure has managed to stay out of trouble ever since he was released back in 2007 and has been a productive part of society. He continues to make great music, he recently declared himself a married man, he's achieving his goals and is on the straight and narrow path.

But clearly, that's not enough for the organizers of the MOBO awards.

Once they found out that the sweet sounding melody came from a man with a criminal record they cut him from the nomination list for BEST REGGAE ACT.  A list where his name sat amongst artists like Mavado, Khago, Alborosie, Nas and Damian Marley.

Now, we can go back and forth about is it right or wrong.  At this point it doesn't matter because one things for sure, Jah Cure will NOT receive a 2011 MOBO award.  But my question to you is...

Do you think your past defines who you are?

MIXTAPE DOWNLOAD: MUNGA HONORABLE - SIMPLE!

CHO!!

This one is the SIMPLE mixtape from the one and only MUNGA HONORABLE yeaahhh!  And for the past few weeks, this is what I've been listening to on my way to work.  A couple of tracks on this mixtape had me laughing, like the song dedicated to his great smelling cologne!

When Miss Mona had the opportunity to interview him she fell in love with his cologne.. even after the event, that's all she spoke about.  But shhhh, don't tell her I told you! LOL

When I heard the "Cologne" song only a few days later, I see that Munga is very use to the compliments!

Aside from his cologne, this mixtape features some of my favorites like, "One Little Spliff" and "Goodas"  while it introduces us to some of his latest creations like, "Music In My Head".

If you haven't had a chance to hear it, make sure you download it today!  Just click here!
